An IV bag, a tube sock, a clothespin and a thin hose—this was the very first version of a CamelBak. Michael Eidson concocted it in preparation for a grueling 100-mile bicycle race through Texas. As a medical technician, he knew the importance of hydration. As a bicycle enthusiast, Eidson realized the advantages to being able to hydrate hands-free. Years of design improvements and research later, Camelbaks are more comfortable and easier to use. They also have a very different look from the tube sock inception. It may seem that Camelbak has perfected the hydration system, but its innovative employees are committed to developing new styles and gear.
