ARMY JUMP BOOTS
Military paratroopers face a unique set of challenges when it comes to avoiding foot and ankle injuries. Highly specialized paratrooper boots were first adopted by US Army Airborne Forces in WWII to help mitigate the many risks associated with parachuting.
WHAT ARE JUMP BOOTS?
Jump boots (AKA "Corcorans") are easily recognizable by their high lace-up ankles that extend several inches above those of other combat boots. Military jump boots also have closed eyelets to prevent snags on rigging, enhanced ankle support, cushioned insoles, and slip-resistant rubber outsoles. A high-quality leather upper resists abrasion and delivers lasting durability.
HOW TO SHINE JUMP BOOTS:
Even the best combat boots will wear out with hard use, but you can extend the service life of your jump boots by keeping them in good working order with routine care and shining.
Shining your boots isn't complicated, but there are ways to streamline the process so you can get back on your feet faster. First, make sure you have enough space to work, taking extra care to protect non-leather goods from encountering shoe polish. Remove your laces and set them aside.
Second, take a stiff natural fiber brush and clean off any dirt, dust, and debris from the surface of your boots. You can use a dampened cloth for grimier areas, but boots must be fully dried before polishing.
Next, using a soft cloth, thoroughly work shoe polish into the entire surface of your combat boot, including the tongue and around grommets. Allow polish to sit on the surface of the boot for a few minutes, then, using a soft shoe brush, remove excess polish and buff to a high shine.
Finally, replace your laces using your preferred lacing method, such as Army, straight-bar, or ladder lacing.
CORCORAN JUMP BOOTS
Initially worn by the 82nd Airborne in 1941, Corcoran jump boots were soon adopted by paratroopers across the US Army. The military jump boot seen in WWII photos was made by the US Army-contracted Corcoran Boot Company, which has maintained a legendary reputation ever since.
Corcorans are prized for their leather uppers and responsive Goodyear welt. With exceptional craftsmanship, these boots are built to last. Vintage Corcoran boots are much sought after by collectors of military memorabilia.
